In Jinnah University for Women on Saturday, January 29th, 2011, a lecture was held to spread the awareness about the need of citizen journalism in the society. This extended lecture was held by the department of mass communication. The Team from Dawn News came in to give the lecture on “Citizen Journalism”
Mr. Owais Mangalwala, producer and anchor in Dawn News arrived along with his team members to tell the need of citizen Journalism in our society. He fully described the basic concept of citizen journalism while giving us the ideas on how to become a citizen journalist he stated that “Everyday we go through different phase of life and every individual among us carry different way out of every problem.” We encourage those who share their amazing, extraordinary stories where the camera can not reach.
He further discussed the most important point which are needed to be focused to become a citizen journalist and also about career opportunities for a citizen journalist in his channel.
While giving these pieces of knowledge he was also answering the student’s questions with that activity he also emphasizes to differentiate between news and noise. He said that citizen journalism can be done by single person or by group of people.
He also show his channel as platform for mass communication students to reveal unusual stories happening DAWN news also said they are giving us an official platform to show our talent with a name “Citizen Journalism”
The guest finished up his lecture by the opinion poll from DAWN NEWS on their newly started morning show with “Mast Morning with Maira”.
